Prompt:
"A student shared this video in the ACE 103 F2F class. What are your thoughts?!
Here's my response to the prompt:
I enjoyed the video because it brought to attention some very important points about the competition of education, teacher's wages, and the progression of education. It's hard to accommodate for everything that is said in that video though. If teachers and heart surgeons earned the same salary that would be unjust. This is because of the certain strains that those other professionals go through. We must have a hierarchy in our society or else it falls apart. When the grading system was brought up in the video I thought that if we don't have a healthful competition then students won't be as productive. The stress of good grades in schools is over emphasized but to do away with the notion of grading would not be beneficial in my eyes. I like the visual representation of the quote from Einstein. Also I agree that the standardized testing is ridiculous and outdated. When I was in high school everything was taught in order to pass a test. It wasn't about the learning. School systems try to pull a wool over the student body's eyes and tell them that this is all for the learning but it is not. In elementary school it was for the PSSA and in high school it's the PSSA, Keystones, and the SAT's There is an over emphasis on these tests. We put so much pressure on this that students are afraid of testing. Schooling and education should not be about the tests or preparation for the test. Just like Prince Ea said in his video, it should be about the learning and preparation for the future. How am I supposed to learn how to file my taxes, take out loans, get a credit card, and other adult duties when all that I am learning is how to pass a test? It's a frustrating thing once you graduate high school and are ignorant to things that the common adult does. Preparation for the future over preparation for testing.
